Bettereo bots
Bettereo is a visibility CDN: it serves prerendered pages to search engines and AI assistants for the websites its customers connect to it. To do that, Bettereo fetches pages with two user agents. If you saw one of them in your logs, this page explains why.
BettereoRenderer
BettereoRenderer loads the pages of a website whose owner connected it to Bettereo and proved control of its DNS. It renders each page in a real browser, as a visitor would see it, so that Bettereo can serve the rendered page to search engines and AI assistants. Its user agent is a regular browser user agent, for mobile or desktop, that ends in:
(compatible; BettereoRenderer/1.0; +https://bettereo.com/docs)
BettereoAnalyzer
BettereoAnalyzer fetches the public pages a Bettereo customer asks to analyse for search, AI-assistant readability and security, such as the pages of their own site or a page they compare theirs with. Its user agent is:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; BettereoAnalyzer/1.0; +https://bettereo.com/bot)
How they behave
- They only request public pages: they don’t sign in, fill in forms or buy anything.
- BettereoRenderer only renders websites whose owners connected them to Bettereo, on the schedule the owner sets.
- Both identify themselves in their user agent, so you can recognise, allow or block them.
Allowlisting them
If your site uses bot protection or a web application firewall (WAF), it may answer
Bettereo with a challenge page instead of your content, and Bettereo then can’t
render or analyse the page. Add a rule that allows requests whose user agent contains
BettereoRenderer or BettereoAnalyzer, then re-render or
re-analyse the page from the Bettereo console.
